This United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla is located in Cary, NC. We are part of District 5 Southern Region, Division 9. Members of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteer their time to assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search & rescue, maritime security, ATON’s, environmental protection and Coast Guard Academy introduction programs for youth. One of the primary missions of Flotilla 9-11 is to promote safe boating in our area through the education of the boating public. One of the ways we try to accomplish this is through our Boating Safely courses. We’d like everyone to take our course, regardless of your experience level. Whether you’re brand new to boating or if you’ve been on the water all your life we think you’ll enjoy the class and learn something that may save your life or the life of someone you love. If you’d like more information on a boating safety course in the Cary area click the Safety Classes link at the top of this page.

Another important part of our public education program is the Vessel Safety Check program. A Vessel Safety Check, or VSC, is a free service provided by specially trained auxiliary members to the boating public. Your vessel examiner has no legal authority. You will not be penalized in any way if your boat is not up to safety guidelines. Our goal is to educate the boating public in ways to improve their safety on the water. We will let you know what you can do to make your boat and your family safer, as well as inform you when your vessel is not up to current legal requirements. Not only might a Vessel Safety Check prevent an on-the-water mishap, you might learn something that will prevent you from getting a costly citation from local law enforcement. To find out more about VSC’s, click the Vessel Safety link at the top of this page.

One of the cornerstones of our organization is fellowship. Flotilla 9-11 holds Flotilla Meetings on the second Thursday of each month.
TIME: We have a buffet dinner any time from 6:00 until 7:00 PM, come when you can make it. The Meeting starts at 7:00 PM and runs until about 8:30 or 9:00. Come for dinner and fellowship, or just for the meeting!
WHERE: We meet at the NC State University Club. In the front door and to the right.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Hillsborough Street, just east of the Fairgrounds, on the east side of the Veterinary College (next door to the cows), on the north side of the road.
Please email Phil Vasko a few days before the Flotilla Meeting if you plan you attend.
