The Auxiliary

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard, as well as the lead volunteer force in the Department of Homeland Security.  Founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the Auxiliary in 1941. The Flotilla

The Auxiliary is made of hundreds of local units called flotillas.  It is at this level that the "rubber meets the road" and the real work of the auxiliary is done.   The Burlington flotilla meets the third Wednesday of every month at the  Burlington Police Department.  The meeting will start at 7:00pm.  Guests are welcome to attend flotilla meetings. Contact Ted Schmidt for more information. It's a great opportunity to meet the folks in the flotilla and find out more about what we do.

Directions: Hwy. 62 North from Burlington.  Turn right S. Church Street.  Go approx 1.5 miles and turn right on W. Front Street.  The police station is on the corner of W. Front and S. Church. Parking is in the back.

Note:  The next meeting will be May 21st, 2008 at 7:00pm.

Public Education

One of our primary missions is to promote safe boating in our area through the education of the boating public. One of the ways we try to accomplish this is through our Boating Safely courses. We'd like everyone to take our course, regardless of your experience level. Whether you're brand new to boating or if you've been on the water all your life we think you'll enjoy the class and learn something that may save your life or the life of someone you love. If you'd like more information on a boating safety class in the Burlington area click the Safety Classes button in the sidebar on the left of this page.

Vessel Safety Checks

Another important part of our public education program is the Vessel Safety Check program. A Vessel Safety Check, or VSC, is a free service provided by specially trained Auxiliary members to the boating public. To find out more about VSC's, click the Vessel Safety button on the left of this page.
