Our Operations Program is probably how you first became aware of the auxiliary. We have members out on the water patrolling local waterways, providing assistance to boaters in trouble, and assisting the United States Coast Guard in a variety of activities. If you like being out on the water, and you like helping others, you may be interested in this program.
Our Public Education Program provides boating safety classes to the public throughout the year. We offer such classes as Boating Skills & Seamanship, Boating Safely, and Advanced Coastal Navigation. If you have any experience educating others and/or have great people skills this may be an excellent opportunity for you to share your knowledge and experience with others.
The Vessel Safety Check Program gives us a chance to get out and meet the boating public one on one and help them provide a safe time on the water for their friends and families. We provide this as a free service to the public. The process involves a brief inspection of an owner’s vessel, as well as the safety equipment on board. We are able to provide the owner with a list of items that he or she will need to have on board to help minimize the risks involved in boating. If you enjoy meeting new people, enjoy helping people, and have a sense of tact and professionalism this might be a program that you are interested in. It is one of the most important services provided by the Auxiliary.
The Aids To Navigation or ATON program is a service the auxiliary participates in as a service to mariners. Ever wonder what those big poles with the red or green boards on them were? Have you ever wondered how anybody knows when to change the bulb in them? Are you amazed by the people that weave in and out of channel markers like skiers on a slalom run? If you answered yes to any of those questions our ATON program may be for you!
